APC StruxureWare Central provides an efficient way for organizations to monitor their company-wide multi-vendor physical infrastructure: power, cooling, security, and environment. Real-time monitoring, user-defined reports and graphs, and instant fault notification and escalation enable quick assessment and resolution of critical infrastucture events that can adversely affect IT system availability. This centralized respository of critical information can be accessed by multiple users from anywhere on the network, creating a consolidated view of the physical infrastructure. This open and flexible architecture expands with changing business needs through additional device licenses, add-on surveillance, capacity management and change management modules, and through integration with enterprise and building management systems.

The Avocent DSView® 3 Power Manager software adds power monitoring capability to the access and control functions of DSView 3 software.
The addition of Power Manager gives companies the ability to monitor and measure IT energy consumption, and determine costs and trends across all levels within their data centers and remote locations.
Information gathered from supported power devices, such as the Avocent PM PDUs, can be used to generate historical graphs and reports. With that data, IT administrators and managers can consider overall cost and capacity across individual PDUs, racks, rows of racks or entire data centers.

The Trellis platform from Emerson Network Power (Liebert) helps IT and Facility to connect, communicate and control all assets within the data center. The intelligence built into the platform allows you to execute decisions in real-time and then immediately validate and assess the impact on your critical infrastructure. With information in hand, you’ll have a better understanding of the interplay and trade-offs between efficiency, availability, and capacity utilisation.
By collecting, aggregating and presenting every point of critical data — from virtual server instances to rack-level power demands to environmental information — you’ll see current performance and how various changes impact, or may impact, your data center’s critical infrastructure. The contextual overview spans the entire data center (both real time and long term), leading to lower operating costs and higher availability.
The Trellis platform provides real-time visibility and control into every aspect of your critical infrastructure.

The Liebert XD from Emerson Network power is a refrigerant-based cooling modular system to support the hot aisle/cold aisle approach to cooling high heat density data centers. The modules provide focused rack cooling, enhancing a room precision cooling unit, such as a Liebert DS system. Pumped refrigerant is ideal for use around electronic equipment, operating at low pressure in the piping circuit, and becoming a gas at room conditions.
Liebert XD cooling modules are available in configurations to suit individual application requirements:
Liebert XDO overhead cooling module mounts directly above the cold aisle, requiring no floorspace. It draws in hot air from the hot aisle, then discharges cool air into the cold aisle where the equipment air inlets are located. Available with Smart Module integrated control board, for increased module control and monitoring.
Liebert XDV rack cooling module mounts vertically on or above the IT rack enclosure, requiring no floorspace. It draws hot air from inside the cabinet or from the hot aisle. It then cools the air and discharges it down to the cold aisle. Available with Smart Module integrated control board, for increased module control and monitoring.
Liebert XDR cooling module is designed to replace the back door of a server enclosure, providing cooling without increasing the rack footprint. The module uses the server fans within the protected rack to provide airflow, providing the most energy efficient design.
Liebert XDH row-based cooling module is placed directly in line with the rack enclosures, and requires very little floorspace. Air from the hot aisle is drawn in through the rear of the unit, cooled, and then discharged horizontally through the front of the unit into the cold aisle. Available with Smart Module integrated control board, for increased module control and monitoring.
Liebert XD CoolFrame cooling module is designed to install on the back of the Egenera Bladeframe EX system, providing cooling without increasing the rack footprint.

The Liebert CRV is the perfect cooling solution for small computer rooms and data centres. It integrates within a row of data center racks, providing cooling close to the server heat source for efficient and effective data center management. The system features Liebert iCOM controls and a digital scroll compressor, resulting in high reliability and optimized system performance. The horizontal airflow is suitable for raised or non-raised floors.
Liebert CRV uses environmentally friendly R410A refrigerant, and is available in different versions, depending on data center design requirements:
- 20 or 35kW air-cooled and water-/glycol-cooled systems
- 40kW chilled water cooled systems
- Precision cooling and humidity control
- Installs within the row of racks
- Up to 10 racks per cooling unit may be monitored to improve system performance and report rack temperatures.

“Cooling systems often account for as much as 37% of Data Centre electricity use. For every degree less of heat that Data Centre equipment generates, 4% is saved on cooling costs.” Source: Sun Microsystems
In a communications room, or any enclosed area where a significant level of electronic equipment is located, an efficient and reliable air conditioning system is critical to maintaining a stable environment. There are several options to choose from when it comes to selecting the right cooling solution, Source UPS work with Liebert and APC, two of the world leading manufactures of precision cooling for computer rooms and data centres to to offer a portfolio of products for all applications.
Hot Aisle Containment Cooling Solutions
Most IT equipment, particularly rack mounted devices, breath cold air in the front and exhaust hot air from the rear. Hot aisle/cold aisle aligns the cabinets in rows around this concept, with the server exhausts of each row back to back, facing one another, becoming the hot aisle. The hot aisle air is immediately captured and contained so server exhaust air is restricted from entering the rest of the data centre. Where the warm air is exhausted depends on the containment configuration.
In-Rack Cooling Solutions
In-Rack cooling is the most precise cooling available, as the rack and the air conditioner operate in tandem with one another. Cold air is forced to pass through the servers; hot air has no choice but to pass through the heat exchanger.
Depending on the product, In-Rack cooling will use chilled water or refrigerant as the cooling medium. The majority of products do not bring liquid into the actual server rack. The air conditioner is housed in an adjacent, but separate enclosure and the equipment at the rack level is still air cooled. Chilled water units will require connections to chillers for chilled water supplies and heat rejection will have an exhaust requirement.
In-Row Cooling Solutions
Conventional data centre cooling floods an entire room with cold air—an approach that works well at minimal power densities. Using Hot Aisle / Cold Aisle configurations, In-Row cooling offers capacity and efficiency gains by moving the air conditioner closer to actual load. Using fans Installed on the floor or suspended from overhead, in-row cooling units deliver local, focused cooling at the rows of server cabinets which fill the data centre.
