FIRE SUPPRESSION SYSTEMS
Fire is one of the most dangerous threats to business with quite devastating effects.
Fire suppression systems can be used to extinguish or prevent the spread of fire in a comm’s room or data centre. They provide protection from fire damage and, most importantly, they give people a greater chance of getting out if there is a fire. By reducing the damage and severity of a fire, they can also save money, too.
We offer room and rack fire suppression solutions to suit any application and environment. Our fire suppression systems include Very Early Smoke Detection Apparatus (VESDA) to spot early signs of fire through smoke, heat and other warning signals and upon detection will automatically release an external substance to extinguish the fire before it spreads.
Room Flood Fire Suppression
The traditional method of fire protection for IT & electronic equipment is to totally flood the room with a gaseous fire extinguishant usually, Argonite, Inergen, FM200 or NOVEC 1230. Room flood systems are very popular for larger data centres and are suitable for most enclosed areas.
When a fire is detected, the systems control panel releases the gas stored in cylinders into the room via a piping network and nozzles (usually mounted on the ceiling) which displaces the oxygen in the room to extinguish the fire.
Rack Mounted Fire Suppression
Rack mounted fire suppression systems place the fire detection and protection tools in the rack, closest to where the risk of fire and the threat to business continuity is greatest. Being closer to the threat enables faster detection and deployment of the extinguishant gas. This helps prevent the spread of fire sooner than traditional room-based systems and reduces the cost of damaged equipment.
Rack mounted fire suppression systems are easier to install, use less extinguishant gas and are portable. If the data centre needs to be re-located you can simply move the suppression system in the rack with no need for re-installation.
When we started planning a refresh of our UPS estate, we stumbled upon Source UPS. They are one of those companies you hope you will find. They are true experts in their field and made some great suggestions that have made managing our server rooms much easier.
